On international routes a parcel crosses a border. To avoid trouble, clear up a few things in advance.

What can cross?

Every country has its own rules. Small gifts for personal use usually cause no problems, while commercial quantities may be subject to duty. Prohibited and restricted items are always the exception.

Documents and value

  • Declare the contents correctly — a wrong declaration causes trouble for you and the traveler.
  • For an expensive item, a receipt/document helps.
  • Don't overstate or hide the value.

If in doubt, check the prohibited list before you send.
